History—Victorian Times

- The children will find out about Queen Victoria and her importance in history.
- They will have a hands on experience at the Black Country Living Museum.
- They will learn about Victorian schools and the jobs of Victorian children.

- The children will compare toys from the past with present day.

 

Geography —The UK

- The children will learn the countries and capital cities that make up the UK.
- They will compare locations in the UK such as cities, villages, towns and the coast.

- Using aerial views, the children will learn to recognise the above locations.

 - They will learn about the geographical features of the Black Country.

- The children will recognise map symbols and then use the school grounds to conduct fieldwork.

Writing

- Write diary entries in role as Dougal from Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary.

- Write letters as if they were a crayon from the story The Day the Crayons Quit.
- Write poems about friends and family. 

- Write an opening to a story using a picture as a stimulus.

- Write a fairy tale based on Jack and the Beanstalk.

Reading

- The children will have a phonics book each week that they will read daily in small groups.
- Poetry from the books A First Poetry Book by Pie Corbett and Gaby Morgan and I thought I heard a Sneeze by Brian Moses.

- Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary by Simon Bartram

- Jack and the Beanstalk

Phonics and spelling

- The children will have daily focused phonics and spelling  activities.

Maths

- Money including recognising coins and notes, counting in £ and pence and comparing amounts.
- Multiplication and Division using equal groups, arrays and sharing.
- Measuring temperature, mass and capacity and reading scales.

Science

-Materials and their properties, through practical investigations.
- Animals including humans: lifecycles and health.

Art

- The children will create landscape images inspired by L.S. Lowry.

- Use collage skills to create an industrial picture inspired by the industry in the Black Country. 

- Create repeated patterns in the style of William Morris.

Computing

- To use presentation skills and technology to produce a piece of art work.

 

DT

- Design, plan, make and evaluate an covert messenger package to fly on a drone using 3D
printing technology.

Music

- The children will learn out story-telling with instruments.

PE

- Gymnastics

- Fitness

PSHE

- Dreams, Goals and Healthy me.

RE

- The children will learn about the Passover and its importance to the Jewish community.

- They will learn about the Easter story and its significance to Christians. 

Learning Outside the Classroom

- The children will go on a trip to the Black Country Museum.

- Walk to a local cafe to buy a drink and biscuit and work out the change they need.

- Walk in the local area to determine the purpose of buildings near school.

- Tidy raised bed and plant produce as part of Edible Playgrounds.

- Complete Commando Joe missions and be introduced to orienteering.
